This is the third of the Falls of CLyde models to be built.  The aim of this one is to show her as she was when originally launched on December the 12th 1878 from the ship yard of Russells & Co, Glasgow.  The inspiration for the model is a photo of her at anchor off the coast of San Francisco taken in about 1899 - while the detailing comes from original drafts, and a painting dated 1891, by Lai Fong, providing the earliest illustration of the configuration of her decks and layout.  The scale detailing of comparable objects on the painting and the original Russells drafts are so close that I believe that an original general arrangement drawing must have been provided to the artist to lay out his art work.
