The Falls of Clyde - 1878

With the basic hull blocks together the stem and stern are carved to shape and the frame positions marked on all surfaces.  To this are added a brass rudder and stern post, together with the stem post.  A sample is made of a section of Bulwarks to solve the problem of having to paint  156 very small white rectangles along the inside.  This is to make the Bulwarks in 4 parts, that can each be painted separately, then assembled, each locking the others together to form the whole.  The base being machined from a rectangular length of brass, to form the scuppers on the inside, a moulding on the out side, and a vertical plate to which the Bulwark plating is then soft soldered.  With the sample completed, it is now possible to proceed with the construction.
