The Falls of Clyde - 1878

The deck houses are fabricated from brass sheet and brass angle - as in the Falls of Clyde 1 & 2 models -  over hard word pattern blocks, but these are then retained as cores, with extended bases, to assist in locating them in corresponding openings in the main deck.  The Poop and Forecastle decks are formed in sheet brass, and made removable at this stage, to facilitate the detailing and painting at a later stage of the machinery and accommodation under them.  These will all be fully planked at a later stage.  The openings for the anchor chain in the stem plating, was turned from brass bar, then slightly flattened in a vice to form the required shape.
