The inner portions of the front fender patterns are used to exactly locate the sheet metal fenders to the body shell, after first removing surplus metal from all parts.  The aim should be for a mitred joint at the junction of these parts to make an exact fit.  These are then tinned, assembled, spot soldered, checked and fully soldered in place.
